Governance
The Global Human Rights Empowerment Network (GHREN) is governed by an independent Board of Directors responsible for fiduciary oversight, strategic direction, and executive supervision. The Board safeguards the organization's legal, ethical, and financial integrity and evaluates overall performance.
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors serves as the governing authority of GHREN. Its responsibilities include:
- Providing fiduciary oversight and financial stewardship
- Approving strategic priorities and major initiatives
- Supervising and evaluating the Executive Director
- Ensuring regulatory compliance and ethical standards
- Protecting the organization's charitable mission
Board Leadership
Board Chair
The Board Chair leads the Board of Directors, presides over meetings, promotes effective governance practices, and serves as the primary liaison between the Board and the Executive Director.
Board Committees
To strengthen oversight and institutional accountability, GHREN maintains standing committees operating in an oversight capacity:
- Governance & Nominating Committee — Oversees bylaws, governance policies, and board recruitment.
- Finance & Audit Committee — Monitors budgets, financial reporting, audits, and internal controls.
- Development Committee — Supports fundraising strategy at the governance level.
- Ethics & Compliance Committee — Oversees conflict-of-interest policies and regulatory compliance.
Executive Leadership
Executive Director
The Executive Director serves as chief executive officer and reports directly to the Board of Directors.
The Executive Director is responsible for strategic implementation, operational management, staff coordination, and organizational performance consistent with Board-approved priorities.
The Executive Director may attend Board meetings in an ex-officio capacity in accordance with governance policies.
Operational Structure
All operational departments report to the Executive Director and may include:
- Education & Capacity-Building — Designs and delivers civic education, leadership development, and fellowship programs.
- Human Rights & Policy — Conducts research, develops policy briefs, and translates human rights standards into practical institutional recommendations.
- Programs & Community Initiatives — Implements national and international programs and tracks measurable impact outcomes.
- Partnerships & External Affairs — Manages relationships with governmental, non-governmental, academic, and international institutions.
- Finance & Administration — Oversees budgeting, accounting, compliance, and internal operations.
- Development & Resource Mobilization — Leads fundraising strategy, grant development, and diversified resource planning.
